Queenstown or Wanaka for Snowboarding in New Zealand?

I had a dream last night, I had gone to New Zealand for my first snow trip outside of Australia and was having the time of my life. When I woke up, I immediately went into snow trip research mode! Last year when the snow season ended here, I knew my next destination would be NZ because it’s so close (3hr flight from Sydney) and everyone raves about it. With airfares being the lowest they have ever been, it...

Burton Lip-Stick 2011

This year for my second trip ever to the snow, I decided I wanted to go all out and get a snowboard, boots, bindings…everything! A lot of my friends thought I was crazy since I’ve only been to the snow once, but I knew that this was going to be a sport I would fall in love with. And when I fall, I fall hard! Because I wasn’t a very experienced snowboarder but I knew I wanted to get...

Wax Your Board

I’ve personally have never waxed a board and can’t because I don’t have a well ventilated area (apartment). But for those that want to maximise their board performance and try doing it themselves, here’s a unique way of doing it which I stumbled across (does not involve dripping wax). It is the common way Japanese snowboarders wax their boards, but foreign to everyone else. It is understood to be a “better” way of waxing your board because it wastes...

Last year when the snow season ended here, I knew my next destination would be NZ because it’s so close (3hr flight from Sydney) and everyone raves about it. With airfares being the lowest they have ever been, it was a no brainer, I’m going to be boarding the great slopes of NZ. But where? From quick chats with friends and browsing over the internet it appeared that Queenstown or Wanaka was the way to go. But when I...

What is Burton’s EST?

Posted 20 Oct 2010 in Gear

Have you seen or heard about Burton’s EST system but not sure what it’s all about? I’ve been there! Here’s some information on the new snowboarding technology and if it would suit your needs. About 2 years ago, Burton launched a brand new way to ride with the release of the Burton EST binding system. This new EST binding system completely changes the way bindings are mounted to the snowboards. These new bindings offer the limitless stance options. The major change to traditional binding is the use of SensoryBED. SensoryBED is becoming the replacement for the old baseplate that is generally found on traditional bindings. This new technology is a super cushioned and completely removable platform that will absorb...

Can’t wait for my new GIRO helmet & Skullcandy drop kit to arrive!

I’ve just purchased a brand new GIRO Sheer 2011 helmet (specifically for women) and to go along with it, Skullcandy audio drop kit. I bought them online because of the helmet isn’t available in Australia and the drop kit is overpriced here. Why would I buy a helmet? Most average snowboarders go without a helmet because if you just board for fun, it is unlikely you will do any serious harm to yourself. I had the same thoughts as I am still a beginner, but my most recent trip to the slopes saw me hit the back of my head on hard packed snow. And what can I say, it wasn’t fun! I didn’t feel “right” for much of...
